Philip G. Altbach is Research Professor and Distinguished Fellow at the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College, where from 1994 to 2015 he was the Monan University Professor. He was the 2004–2006 Distinguished Scholar Leader for the New Century Scholars initiative of the Fulbright program, and has taught at Harvard University, the University of Wisconsin, and the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Dr Altbach has authored and edited several books, including Global Perspectives on Higher Education and Turmoil and Transition: Student Politics in America. He also co-edited The Road to Academic Excellence (with Jamil Salmi); American Higher Education in the 21st Century (with Michael Bastedo and Patricia Gumport); the International Handbook of Higher Education; and World Class Worldwide: Transforming Research Universities in Asia and Latin America.
Dr Altbach is a member of the Russian government’s “5-100 University Excellence Commission.” He holds a BA, MA and PhD degrees from the University of Chicago.
